Washington Nationals’ third-baseman Ryan Zimmerman confident on contract extension
The Washington Nationals third-baseman Ryan Zimmerman is showing some great optimism over his contract extension with the club. Some believe that Zimmerman is one of those Major League players who always prefers and remains loyal to one particular franchise.
Lately, he spoke to the media and told reporters that he will like to end his career here in the Nationals. He has been playing in the Nationals since 2005. While all those years, his performance has never been dropped at a point where the team did not recognise his worth and traded his playing rights to another team.
During the Nationals' FanFest last month, couple of reporters again asked some questions from star third-baseman over his contract extension. Not only Zimmerman told them that his extension talks in process but he also hoped for a better future with the team.
“I think it’s unfair to my teammates for that to garner any attention during the season,” Zimmerman said last month. “Once spring training comes, it’s time for us to play baseball. If there’s articles, or if there’s people asking me every day how much money I want to make, that’s rather unfair to the other guys around me who are working just as hard to achieve that goal of winning. It’s got to get done by spring training.”
Later, the Nationals' general manager Mike Rizzo also talked about Zimmerman and his importance in the Nationals' roster. He told the media that Zimmerman is not only a productive player but he is also a very cool and calm player who also knows his job at third-base.
Zimmerman on the other hand has always showed his true talent on the pitch. Carrying a solid batting average of .289, Zimmerman is one of those individuals in the Nationals franchise who do not play for their own individual records and stats but instead always show their true spirit for the whole team.
Some experts do believe that his individual record might be lacking as a six year veteran player, but all the big names in baseball agree on a single fact that his game covers all the other aspects of speed, athleticism, commitment and team playing ability.
