Washington Nationals trounce Milwaukee Brewers 10-5 – MLB News
Washington Nationals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 10-5 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on July 01 at Nationals Park in Washington.
Nationals’ played an outstanding game and proved too good for the Brewers. Their hitters and pitchers dominated all areas of play throughout the game and outclassed the Brewers in the very first game of the series.
"It's kind of contagious. Everybody knows we've got some work to do, Let's get down to business. Let's get serious," Washington manager Davey Johnson said after the game.
Nationals’ hitters scored ten quick runs while their pitchers defended well all those ten runs. They never allowed the Brewers batting lineup to hit hard instead they pitched in right areas and won the game with quite ease.
"Typical Bryce right there, he's all about the drama," teammate Jayson Werth said.
Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann pitched six innings and allowed four runs on nine hits. He also allowed four earned runs on 2.46 ERA while he struck out five Brewers’ hitters.
"You don't expect to see it from Yovani because he's been so consistent through his career, but he's at a point right now where for some reason he's deep in counts to almost every batter,” Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said.
Relief pitcher Craig Stammen pitched 0.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits along with one earned run on 3.32 ERA.
"I felt like I was back on Opening Day, I was trying to get something I could drive. I got a pitch I could handle a little bit and put it where I wanted to," said Harper, who homered in his first two at-bats of the season.
The Nationals’ batters on the other end also did a very good job and helped their team win an important game of the series. Right fielder Jayson Werth with one run on two hits started a good early run in the game. He also ran for five RBIs on his .444 slugging percentage on five at bats.
Left fielder Bryce Harper scored one run on one hit. He ran for an RBI on his four at bats while he wonderfully managed his .597 slugging percentage.
