Washington Nationals trounce Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 as Jordan Zimmermann shines - MLB Update
Starter Jordan Zimmermann strikes-out seven as the Washington Nationals trounce the Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C. on September 24, 2012 in the last game of the four match series.
After losing the last game, the Nationals have bounced back strongly. Such a thumping defeat they handed the Brewers speaks volumes of their ability to rout any opposition.
Nationals had a lead from the very beginning on Monday. However, before the start of the bottom of the fourth, they were hardly in a position to make it almost impossible for the Brewers to come back into the game.
Six runs that were posted on the scoreboard by the Nationals in the fourth inning set the tone for their victory. Thereafter, they just built on their lead while the opposition capitulated.
Offensively Washington struck 14 hits in the match.
Apart from their hitters, pitchers were equally impressive as was witnessed from the fact that they nearly handicapped Brewers for scoring runs in the penultimate innings.
Jordan Zimmermann carried out the starting job. In little more than six innings, he yielded four hits and gave up one run.
Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman again stood out at the plate for the Nationals. He added four RBIs while connecting three hits in four at-bats. Other than him, right fielder Jayson Werth slammed two hits in four at-bats.
Werth speaks about the fly ball hit and how he was lucky as it did not fall in the area where the fielder can grab it comfortably.
"It is just a matter of being lucky and not getting a ball hit to you when it's in your field of vision," Werth said. "Even then, if the ball is hit to your left early in the game, it goes into the sun. And if it goes to your right later in the game, it
goes in the sun. And if it's hit right at you in the middle of the game, you are in trouble."
Washington will be aiming for the sustenance of their momentum until the conclusion of the season. They will be hoping for glory and laurels never experienced before. It will be interesting to see how they perform in the post-season.
