Washington Nationals undone by Chris Carpenter in Game 3 of NLDS - MLB Update
Game three which can be a watershed for the eventual demise of Washington Nationals saw Chris Carpenter dominating from the mound and helping the St. Louis Cardinals routing the opposition.
Despite the fact Carpenter has not played regularly so far, he was incredible on the mound.
He showed hardly any sign that he was out of practice and that he has not experienced playing a great number of matches in the season.
He completed little more than five scoreless innings.
On the other hand, Edwin Jackson who has been a regular campaigner for the Nationals in the season could not produce desired pitches from the mound. He allowed runs and ended up costing his side the loss.
Before the game began, it was being discussed that Carpenter may be unable to adjust quickly despite boasting great credentials for throwing well in the big matches.
Due to this, the Nationals were being touted as better poised to keep the Cardinals from winning.
However with the way Carpenter restricted Nationals on Wednesday and did not allow them to score even a single run proves his class as a big match player.
He helped the Cardinals last year in their World Series Championship victory.
He will be looking to replicate his performances in the last season from now onward in the games ahead and strengthen the Cardinals’ pitching staff.
Talking about the fewer number of games he started in the current season, Carpenter has clarified that what matters the most is throwing quality innings whenever he earns the opportunity. He feels great as he spearheaded the Cardinals in shutting the Nationals
out on Wednesday.
"No matter if I've got one start, no starts or 35 starts, the bottom line is, you go out there on the mound and make pitches and eliminate all of the distractions," Carpenter said. "I was able to do that, for the most part, today."
Returning to top-notch form immediately after getting an opportunity by Carpenter is a healthy sign for the Cardinals.
If Carpenter can continue putting up splendid shows on the mound, he can go a long way in allowing the Cardinals to defend their World Series Championship that they won last year.
It will be interesting to see how he keeps the momentum going in the upcoming matches.
