Washington Nationals will not stop Stephen Strasburg from pitching in All-Star game - MLB
Tommy John surgery was believed to wreak a negative impact on Washington Nationals’ ace Stephen Strasburg, to the extent of keeping him prone to injuries throughout his career. This triggered consciousness of the management, which want to see him prevailing
for the club for years. Thus, a pitch limit for 2012 regular season was imposed on him.
In this connection, questions surfaced stating that if Strasburg is announced for the All-Star game, how the Nationals will be responding to it.
Will they stick with their plain to use Strasburg cautiously and make sure he plays the entire season or they will let him pitch in an all-star game and risk an injury? Much to the cheers of the fans, General Manager Mike Rizzo clarifies that sending Strasburg
for All-Star game will be the pride for the club.
One can put that pitching in one game does not affect much. The fact Davey Johnson, the Nationals’ manager, employs special strategy for Stephen and removes the starter from the mound as and when he deems fit, experts maintained that the club will not permit
him for All-Star game.
As the GM has made it clear, only hurdle Strasburg can face now is witnessing a downslide in performance and thus not being declared for that high profile game. Therefore, keeping momentum afloat for Strasburg is important.
“If he’s on schedule to pitch in the game, I’d feel honored if he represented the Nationals in the All-Star Game,” Mike Rizzo said. “It would be an honor for the Washington Nationals. We’re not going to let him pitch on short rest or anything like that.
But if the schedule works, I’d be happy to.”
Notwithstanding with his highest number of strike-outs in the National League, Strasburg has struggled to pitch a greater number of innings in one game. He has yet to become the kind of hurler who can throw the series of shut-out games and register the dominance
in a thumping fashion.
As he is set to start for another game, he will be looking to maintain his dominance and keep enhancing credentials for becoming starter in the All-Star game.
