Washington Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan disappointed with suspended players – NFL News
Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan on Wednesday expressed disappointment over the players Fred Davis and Trent Williams, who are suspended by the National Football League for continuous violation of the league’s substance
abuse policy.
Talking to reporters, the coach said that both the players had damaged the reputation of the franchise. He also said that the action of both the suspended players would affect other teammates.
"Am I disappointed in them? Big time, yeah," he said. "Because they affect not only themselves but this organization and their teammates. That's a bad decision, and they know they put us in a heck of a position."
Left tackle Trent Williams started his professional career after joining Redskins in the year 2010. This is his second season with the franchise.
On the other hand, tight end Fred Davis is playing his fourth season for Redskins after being selected in the year 2008. This season, he played all the 12 games before getting suspended and recorded 59 receives for 796 yards with
an average of 13.5 yards per receive. He also has three touchdowns to his credit.
A day before Shanahan’s press conference, the league formally announced a four-game ban without pay for Williams and Davis. Both players will miss the rest of the regular season.
The coach told the reporters that he had spoken to both the players, who, he said, were remorseful after the suspension. However, Shanahan maintained that no compromise would be made on the discipline. He further said that both
the players will have to prove themselves if they want to gain entry into the team in future.
Meanwhile, Williams and Davis has apologised to their team members in a team meeting on Wednesday.
“They were men enough today to stand in front of the team and say, 'Hey, I did s***w up, and we promise it won't happen again.' Now we will find out in the future if they're true to their word," Shanahan said.
To a question, the coach said that the whole team was feeling let down. He put strong emphasis on the accountability of everyone involved with the franchise and said that no one is above Redskins.
