Washington Redskins' DeAngelo Hall ties record with four interceptions in win over the Chicago Bears
Washinton Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall tied an NFL record with four intereceptions in one game as the Redskins handed the Chicago Bears their third loss in four games with a 17-14 win.
How it happened
Although it was Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler that was picked off four times, Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb was also intercepted twice. It was on the Redskins third possession that McNabb
was picked off by D.J. Moore who ran it back for a touchdown to open the scoring. But the Redskins tied things up with their next possession, when McNabb found his favourite target, Santana Moss, in the end zone with 24-yard pass capping off a nine-play, 72-yard
drive.
The Redskins then went ahead 10-7 after a 46-yard field goal, but it was the Bears who went into half-time with the lead after Cutler found receiver Johnny Knox with a nine-yard pass finishing off a seven-play,
70-yard drive.
The second half belonged to DeAngelo Hall who intercepted Cutler four times. It was on Hall's second interception – and Cutler's third turnover on as many possessions – that Hall ran the ball back 92 yards
for the touchdown, and the only scoring of the second half, to give Washington the win.
What they're saying
The obvious talking point after the game was Hall's record-tying performance.
"It's kind of mind blowing," Hall said. "I had my mom, my aunt, and my two cousins in the stands. The first ball went to my mom, the second ball went to my aunt and the next thing you knew everybody had
a ball."
You'd think that after the first couple of interceptions, Bears quarterback Cutler might have begun to avoid throwing the ball into areas of the field covered by Hall, but the idea apparently never crossed
his mind.
"No, not at all," Cutler said. "I've played against him before. There's no reason to shy away from him. I mean that's hard for me to say throwing four picks to the guy, but I still think if we had to play
him tomorrow, I'd go after him every time."
What it all means
Besides being intercepted four times, Jay Cutler was also sacked four times and leads in the league having been brought down 27 times. After a 3-0 start to the season the Bears are slowly falling in the
NFC standings as they now enter their bye week.
The Redskins, with the win, now move into second place in the AFC East. They travel to Detroit to take on the Lions next week.
