Washington Redskins’ Jarvis Jenkins cleared to play after seven months – NFL News
Washington Redskins’ defensive end, Jarvis Jenkins, who missed the last National Football League (NFL) season owing to an injury, has been declared fit to play, the player claimed on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.
The announcement was made by the player via his Twitter account. He tweeted:
“Officially cleared earlier today to play ball again. God is good. Now it’s [definitely] time for football!”
Jenkins was unfortunate to receive the injury as it forced him out of his rookie season.
After playing college football for Clemson University, Jenkins was drafted by the Redskins in 2011 as the 41st overall pick.
He was given a four-year deal by the team that expected a show of brilliance from the player. However, during the team’s third preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, Jenkins tore his ACL, which forced him on the sidelines.
Later, he underwent a surgery to repair the torn ACL and was informed by his doctors that there was no additional damage. However, he was also told that he would not be able to take the field for around four to six months.
He had already started rehabilitating and despite the injury, he attended many team meetings and continued working out so as to recover as early as possible.
After the surgery last year, he had hoped for earlier recovery and said:
“I haven’t had a major injury before, so watching is kind of hard for me, but it’s all mental. Once I get into the treatment, I just have to dedicate myself to getting back as fast as I can. If I’m going to get through this thing, I’ve got do it by myself
and the doctors, who I’ve got to trust. I can’t lean on anybody to support me. I have to do it myself and stay motivated.”
Redskins were unable to perform well in the last season and they finished the regular season at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division after winning only five out of their 16 games.
After the season, the team management expressed hopes for Jenkins’ earlier return as it had already started devising strategies for the next season and the management considered Jenkins as an important part of its plans.
Now that he has been given a green signal to play, it is expected that he will be able to play his first NFL game next season.
