Washington Redskins Kevin Barnes up for assisting Robert Griffin III in his rookie year – NFL News
Last season was a regretful one for Washington Redskins as they ended up with only five victories while losing 11 games. With their quarterback not performing well last season, Redskins were desperate to add another quarterback.
With a new rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) up their sleeves, Washington Redskins are ready for a stormy season.
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has already announced that RG3 will be the starting quarterback next season.
Griffin after all is a rookie and need the support of the whole team to change Redskins fortunes. For that to materialise, both the offence and the defence need to back each other up.
This, according to cornerback Kevin Barnes, will help out Griffin in his rookie season.
Barnes said:
"I want to produce turnovers, to give the offense short field to help our rookie quarterback out. He’s going to go through his growing pains, so the defence has to help him out."
Barnes himself is concentrating on getting more playing time and giving good performance this season.
Barnes, who joined the Redskins in the 2009 National Football League (NFL) Draft, will start his fourth season with them and is training very hard in the offseason to prepare for the upcoming competition.
He is working on his body to sustain the plodding of playing every game throughout the season. He said:
"I need to be able to hold up throughout the entire season, making sure my body is together and my body is healthy is the most important thing I have been focusing on.”
Last year, Redskins started their season well getting 3-1 in the first month, but due to injuries to their main players the offence’s performance went down. The defence, meanwhile, also started to skid, taking the team to a regretful end.
Barnes thinks that there is a great deal of depth on the Redskins roster this season, thanks to the careful and selected addition by the coach. He said:
“There is great competition at every position. You don’t know how the team is actually going to look when the season starts, but we have a lot of great players to choose from."
With both fellow players and the coach happy with the progress of RG3 in the offseason, things are looking great for Redskins.
