Washington Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan satisfied with Robert Griffin III’s practice – NFL News
Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has expressed satisfaction over performance of rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) after he was cleared for training without contact a day earlier.
RG3 suffered a mild concussion in Redskins’ Week 5 defeat against Atlanta Falcons. He could not finish the game and was sent home.
Initially, it was assumed that he might miss Week 6 game against Minnesota Vikings, but his clearance followed by training has brightened his chances for this weekend’s game.
According to The Washington Post, Shanahan said of RG3’s practice:
”He’s been great in practice this week.”
The offensive coordinator added:
“Sounds like he’s going to be alright.”
Meanwhile, Shanahan has also said that he will not change his play calling against Vikings. Since RG3 is monitored on daily basis, his participation against Vikings is not guaranteed, but there is no denying that the team will now allow him to play if he
shows even minor setbacks.
So it is established that RG3 will be completely fit if he plays. Keeping this view in mind, Shanahan has said that there is no need to change play calling if the quarterback is fit. Shanahan said:
“If I went into a game thinking I had to call it a different way because he might get hurt, then he doesn’t need to be playing.”
Earlier, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan also said that the quarterback was doing fine and that he was expected to play this weekend.
RG3 is into first National Football League (NFL) season and receiving such an injury could be a blessing in disguise for him.
His coaches have told him to rely more on passing skills as a quarterback and let the players around him rush with the ball. After getting the hit, the rookie quarterback has realised that it is indeed better for him to focus more on passing the ball instead
of trusting his own legs all the time.
Concussion-related injuries, no matter how minor they are, could have serious consequences even after any player’s retirement and that is why the league office has also taken very strict measures to ensure players’ safety.
