Washington Redskins’ QB Robert Griffin III impresses teammates during OTAs – NFL News
Washington Redskins’ new quarterback, Robert Griffin III (RG3), lived up to the expectations during the organised team activities (OTAs) on Monday, May 21, 2012, impressing nearly all the senior players and coaches.
Redskins had traded up their pick to select RG3 as the second overall pick in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft and it was expected right from the day one that ‘the kid’ would be the team’s saviour.
It is still too soon to tell if RG3 will be able to lead the Redskins to victories in the upcoming season, but his performance during the rookie minicamp and the ongoing OTAs has earned him the respect of his teammates.
While supporting the team’s decision to trade up the pick to ensure RG3’s selection, Redskins’ veteran wide receiver, Santana Moss, said that the young quarterback is living up to the expectations.
Moss said of RG3:
"He's been doing everything that we expect. He's looking sharp. He don't look like a rookie right now.”
He added:
"If we really do what we have to do and let him be who he is, and really get behind him, (there's) no limits to what we can do."
Redskins’ defensive end, Ryan Kerrigan, who made his NFL debut last year after being selected in the first round of the 2011 draft, referred to his last year’s rookie experience and said that RG3 is also going to enjoy this time of the year.
Talking to WJFK-FM radio, Kerrigan said:
“It’s an exciting time. I hope he soaks it all in and really enjoys it. He’s blessed with a great opportunity and I’m glad for him. It’s a breath of fresh air for our organisation.”
Another receiver, Pierre Garcon, who has recently joined the team after parting ways with the Indianapolis Colts, has also appreciated RG3’s skills.
Garcon praised RG3’s energy and athleticism and said that he has following the team’s playbook quite efficiently.
He said of RG3:
“He's taken leadership in the huddle. He's running plays the way it's supposed to be."
Redskins were able to win only five games in the last season and RG3’s talent will be proved if he is able to lead the team at least to the playoffs in the next season.
