Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III not bothered being called Bob by Giants DE Osi Umenyiora
Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) has said that he does not mind New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora calling him “Bob” and that Osi can call him whatever he wants.
According to the details present on Giants’ website, RG3 told reporters via a conference call:
“Osi is a guy that has proven himself in this league. He’s a sack-master; he’s done a lot of great things over his career. I didn’t mind it at all. I got where he was coming from. I know why everyone blew it out of proportion because it’s the Redskins and
the Giants.”
The rookie added:
“It’s not something to build up or make a big deal out of. Whatever else he wants to call me, it doesn’t matter, I’ve had people call me worse things on the field. It doesn’t bother me at all. I look forward to playing against those guys.”
Osi had called RG3 “Bob Griffin” when he was selected by Washington Redskins as the second overall pick in this year’s draft.
The Giants defenseman was of the view that the rookie must perform well on the field to gain his respect.
It seems that RG3 has done even more. He has not only performed well on the field, but has also shown true sportsmanship by not being offended by the veteran’s comments.
RG3’s performance in the first six weeks of the season has already helped Osi develop an opinion about the rookie. Osi now calls him “Sir” instead of “Bob”.
It will be interesting to see Giants and Redskins taking on each other this Sunday as it will be RG3’s first meeting with the defending champions.
Meanwhile, Giants have also expressed excitement on playing against the second overall pick of this year’s draft. The defending champions are looking forward to hosting the rookie and the pre-game hype goes to show that the game will be played in high spirits
of sportsmanship.
