Washington Redskins’ TE Fred Davis: The worst is over – NFL News
Washington Redskins’ tight end, Fred Davis, has claimed to have learned a lesson from a mistake that forced him to miss the last four games of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season.
During the last season, Davis failed to clear multiple drug tests and the league gave him a four-game suspension in return.
Redskins lost three of their last four games in the season and Davis thinks that the most disappointing part of that punishment was that he was unable to help his teammates during the last four games.
According to the Washington Post, Davis is of the view that there is no need of recalling the incident and the player now wants to focus on the upcoming season.
Davis said:
“It already happened now, and you can’t cry over spilled milk. The worst part of my day was losing those four games, and having to sit and not help my teammates. So, the worst is over, something I can learn from, and something that’s not going to come up
again.”
Last year, the players were unable to train with their coaches at the team’s facility due to the NFL lockout and Davis thinks that the free time he got due to the lockout shifted his focus towards drugs.
This time around, however, the organised team activities (OTAs) are going on and he is keeping his focus completely on his training.
Also, he has got support of his teammates and organisation.
Redskins’ head coach, Mike Shanahan, had already supported the player, hoping that he would never repeat the mistake.
Furthermore, Redskins’ general manager, Bruce Allen, has also said that Davis is a valuable asset and that he will stay with the franchise for a long period of time.
In the light of all these developments, Davis is able to get over his mistakes. In fact, he is advising the young players entering the league not to be involved in any malpractice.
He said:
“Young guys, coming in, not knowing a lot, just need to learn not to play with the system and do things the right way. Or, you can get the repercussions, money gets taken away from you, your name gets bad publicity, just stuff you don’t want.”
