Washington Redskins’ Trent Williams hopes not to repeat past mistakes – NFL News
Washington Redskins did not have a very good last National Football League (NFL) season and the reason was not only their inability to win games, but also the fact that two of their players were suspended by the league.
Redskins lost 11 games last season and were not able to qualify for the playoffs. Furthermore, tight end, Fred Davis, and tackle, Trent Williams, were given a four-game ban each after they were found in violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
Both players missed the final four games of the season much to the disappointment of fans and team management, especially head coach, Mike Shanahan.
For Williams, that suspension has become an old story now and he has learned from his mistake, at least he claims so.
According to The Washington Post, Williams is remorseful over his mistake and wants to make up for it by leading the team in the upcoming season.
When asked about how he feels about violating the policy and receiving the suspension in return, he said:
“It is what it is. I made a mistake. I’ve just got to deal with it.”
He added:
“Be more of a leader. Obviously not make the mistakes I made in the past. Just be a better player and lead by example.”
Williams made his NFL debut with Redskins in 2010. After receiving the suspension in his second professional season, he has learned an important lesson.
He has taken part in the team’s offseason voluntary workout programme and will also participate in the organised team’s activities (OTAs) and preseason games.
Williams is certainly looking forward to step on the field again. He said of sitting out and serving the suspension last season:
“[It was] tough having to watch (football) from the couch.”
Recently, Redskins selected quarterback, Robert Griffin III (RG3), as the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
When asked what he feels about the selection, Williams said it was great to have one of the top draft picks in the squad.
He also said that he is looking forward to the next season in which, he said, his performance would be better.
Williams commented:
“I can’t wait. We’ve got a new quarterback, a whole new team. It’s going to be fun.”
