Washington Redskins beat Philadelphia Eagles 27-20 – NFL Week 16 Recap
Washington Redskins beat their National Football Conference (NFC) East rivals Philadelphia Eagles by 27-20 in Week 16 game on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA.
Eagles were dominant in the first quarter of the game, when their rookie quarterback Nick Foles threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and started their score with 7-0.
Foles was sacked five times during the game. He was 32 of 48 for 345 yards and scored a touchdown with an interception.
Eagles’ defence did not let Redskins to score any point in the first quarter. Redskins kicker Kai Forbath scored a 45-yard field goal in the beginning of the second quarter.
At 7:37, Forbath scored another field goal of 42 yards and took the score to 6-7.
Redskins star quarterback Robert Griffin III threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Joshua Morgan and took the score to 13-7.
Eagles kicker Alex Henery kicked a 38-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter and gained 3 points for the team.
In the beginning of the third quarter, Redskins running back Alfred Morris rushed for 10 yards towards the end zone and took the lead to 20-10.
Henery scored a 30-yard field goal at 08:01. A few minutes later, Griffin threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Santana Moss and led the score with 27-13.
After missing last game against Cleveland Browns due to sprained knee, Griffin returned with a good performance. He completed 16 of 24 passes for 198 yards and scored two touchdowns with an interception.
In his postgame remarks, the quarterback said:
"We're already onto the next one. You don't celebrate wins at this point of the season."
Talking about his own performance, RG3 said:
"Anytime you wear a brace, it's going to restrict your motion. It didn't slow me down by any means. I felt like myself out there. That's why they call me quarterback. It's not abbreviated with running quarterback. I have to throw the ball
and assist guys by handing off."
Eagles running back Dion Lewis rushed for 17 yards in the fourth quarter and ended the game with 20-27.
According to the Associated Press, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan was satisfied with his team’s performance.
He said:
"Any time you win the division, everybody knows you have a home game in the playoffs. We talked about that from Day 1. They knew what we had to do to get there. We haven't accomplished anything yet."
Redskins have won nine and lost six games, and they are leading NFC East. On the other hand, Eagles have won four and lost 11 games, and they are standing dead last in the division.
