Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth charged with sexual abuse – NFL news
Albert Haynesworth, defensive lineman for Washington Redskins, was charged with misdemeanour sexual abuse after a server at a hotel restaurant claimed that he fondled her breast.
The incident occurred at a hotel in downtown Washington, D.C. on February 13, 2011 and a grand jury formally charged Haynesworth over the incident, which could put him behind bars for six months along with a $1,000 fine.
The United States attorney’s office has evidence that shows that the 29-year-old two-time All-Pro slid a credit card into the front of a server’s dress and fondled her breast.
A. Scott Bolden, the attorney representing Haynesworth, said that the charge was regretful and disappointing and that it would be very difficult for the government to prove any wrongdoing. He also claimed that there are several witnesses that would vouch
that Haynesworth is innocent and that the alleged incident never occurred.
“We maintain his innocence, and now the fight begins,” Bolden said.
The police report that was filed after the incident said that Haynesworth wished to pay his bill and asked the waitress if he could place his credit card in her blouse, since her hands were full of dishes. She gave her consent to place the card down the
front of her dress and when Haynesworth did so, he moved his hand down into the left side of her blouse.
Tony Wyllie, spokesman for the ‘Skins said that the team was forwarding all calls seeking comments to Haynesworth and his agent, Chad Speck. Emails and telephone messages left for Speck were not returned.
In February, Speck issued a statement disproving the allegations saying, “There seems to be no truth to these allegations and we are currently evaluating the facts and considering our own legal actions against those involved.”
This is not the first time that Haynesworth has had problems with the law. In May 2006, two arrest warrants were issued in two different counties in Tennessee from a traffic incident but both charges were dropped a month later. In another incident that occurred
in December 2008, Haynesworth was driving his Ferrari over 100 miles per hour and struck the vehicle that Corey Edmondson was driving, which left Edmondson partially paralysed.
In June 2010, there were reports that a bank was suing Haynesworth for failing to pay back a loan of over $2.38 million. He later agreed to a commercial loan agreement that would pay Clayton Bank & Trust the amount.
Silvia Mena, a stripper in New York, sued Haynesworth for $10 million later that year for allegedly impregnating her and providing her with no financial assistance. Another incident occurred in 2011 when he allegedly punched a man in Virginia and broke his
nose during a traffic dispute.
Haynesworth is also expected to be released from the Redskins for “conduct detrimental to the club.”
