Washington Redskins’ general manager Bruce Allen pleased after trading the draft pick – NFL News
While officially confirming that, Washington Redskins have acquired the number 2 overall pick from St. Louis Rams, for the upcoming National Football League (NFL) drafts, Redskins’ general manager, Bruce Allen, has hoped to utilise the pick in a best possible
way.
He said:
“We have done our homework on this entire draft...We feel very comfortable we’re going to get an excellent football player for the Washington Redskins at No. 2.”
Redskins will give four of their picks to Rams. These include sixth overall pick and a second-round pick in this year’s drafts that will start in April.
In addition, Redskins will also have to compromise their first-round picks in 2013 and 2014 drafts respectively in favour of Rams.
When asked whether the trade was worth its salt, Allen asserted that the team was going in the right direction.
Redskins have been in the developing phase from last couple of years. They have acquired a few young prospects during the last few years and are steadily progressing to fulfil their dream of becoming the best team of the league.
Redskins will be able to hire a quarterback in the drafts to add strength to their offensive unit. The most evident option for them is Baylor College’s Robert Griffin III.
Griffin and Stanford’s Andrew Luck are considered to be among the best quarterbacks in the college league.
It is widely speculated that Indianapolis Colts, who have the first overall pick, will select Luck.
This leaves Redskins an option of hiring Griffin.
Allen was hopeful that the team would be able to properly utilise the new talent, who, he said, could play a huge role in the team’s success.
Allen said:
“We’re happy with what we did. We feel like our drafts of the future will take care of itself. We thought what this franchise needed, once again like last year, another infusion of youth. We put a little bit of a jolt into it with our 2012 draft.”
Meanwhile, Rams have also officially confirmed trading of the pick. Rams will also submit the trade to the league for its approval.
This deal cannot be made official unless the start the of the new league year.
