Washington Redskins’ head coach Mike Shanahan discusses RG3’s receivers – NFL News
Washington Redskins’ head coach, Mike Shanahan, has already confirmed that the second overall pick in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3), will be the starter next season, but he did not inform anything about
the receivers who would collect the quarterback’s throws.
As per the latest development, it is expected that the trio of wide receivers, Pierre Garçon, Josh Morgan and Leonard Hankerson will start the next season for the Redskins.
According to The Washington Post, Shanahan is apparently satisfied with the number of options available for the wide receiver’s position, but the head coach might start the season with the three mentioned players.
When asked about the starting receivers for the next season, Shanahan said:
“We’ll let that play out. but when you go after a guy like [Garçon] and you go after a guy like [Morgan], you’ve got a guy like Leonard Hankerson, you know there are three guys right at the top of the list that are playmakers, and that’s what we’re looking
for.”
Hankerson is the only player who was a member of Redskins’ squad last year. The other two receivers have recently joined the team.
Garçon played the last four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts while Morgan played the last four seasons for the San Francisco 49ers.
Redskins also have an option to start with Santana Moss, who has been playing in the league since 2001. He joined the Redskins in 2005.
He was not very productive last year as he played and started 12 games and registered a total of 584 receiving yards on 46 receptions while scoring four touchdowns.
Moss also suffered an injury that forced him out of four games during the last season, but the veteran now claims that he has fully recovered from the injury.
Shanahan, on the other hand, does not seem too convinced and wants to give a chance to young players.
The head coach commented about Moss:
“After the first four games, after he got hurt, I think that set him back and it took him a while to get back in playing shape. So he’s come in probably in as good a shape as he’s come in the last three years, at least according to him.”
