Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo urges teammates to be consistent – NFL News
Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo has never seen his team playing in the postseason since joining the squad in 2009.
Although Orakpo has refrained from issuing any guarantees for the upcoming season, he is hopeful of a better performance from the team.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, the linebacker has urged his teammates to be consistent throughout the season so as to qualify for the postseason.
Last year, Redskins were able to win only five games and after losing 11 they ended up at the bottom of the National Football Conference (East) division.
The only team in their division that the Redskins defeated last year was the New York Giants, who later went on to win the Super Bowl.
While asserting that the team should perform at the same intensity in all the games, Orakpo said that the players should give their best shot right from the start of the season.
He said:
"We have to be consistent, and play week-in and week-out with the same intensity.”
He added:
"We need to start fast and be able to maintain it throughout the whole season."
Orakpo further said that the players have confidence in themselves and that they are going to show it as soon as the season starts. He said:
"I don't make any guarantees, and if I do make any guarantees it's going to be behind closed doors. We have a lot of high expectations for ourselves, but we just want to be low-key right now. Let the season start and we're going to handle our business."
Redskins’ offence has received much-needed support this offseason after the appointment of quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) who was selected as second overall pick in this year’s draft.
Like other players, Orakpo is also hopeful that RG3’s presence will amplify the team’s victory chances, but he has cautioned that the team should not rely only on one player.
He asserted that the offence and defence must complement RG3’s efforts if the team wants to progress in the 2012 season. He said of the young quarterback:
“This guy is the real deal, and I'm excited that he's instilled in that offence with coach Shanahan and Co.”
