Washington Redskins lineman Jarvis Jenkins upbeat about the upcoming season – NFL News
Soon after receiving the green signal from his doctors, who gave him the permission to take the football field again, Washington Redskins lineman Jarvis Jenkins started working out so as to stay in proper shape when the next season comes.
Jenkins, who was selected in second round of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) draft as 41st overall pick, was unfortunate not to make his debut last year.
After being drafted, he attended the team’s training session and headed to play preseason games before the start of the regular season.
He was doing well, but received an injury during the third preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens and did not return to the field after that as he was advised by the doctors to rest for around four to six months.
Last year, he was able to only watch his team losing on the field and even though he was willing to contribute to the team’s success he could not do so because of the injury.
But that miserable part is over now and as he is now allowed to take the field, Jenkins is upbeat about the upcoming season.
According to the Washington Post, Jenkins need some time to get familiar with the playing conditions, but he is excited about the opportunity of playing again.
He said:
"When you're out of football for eight months -- not really on the field playing -- it's going to take a little bit of time to get back into it. I'm focusing on getting more in football shape, playing plays back-to-back and learning not to make mistakes
when I'm tired.”
He added:
“Honestly, it's like having another rookie season. I played three [preseason] games, but that's not enough. I didn't get the gristle of the full NFL season."
Meanwhile, other members of the team’s defensive unit have also welcomed the player’s return.
Redskins have made a few adjustments to their roster this offseason with the highlight being the selection of quarterback Robert Griffin III as the second overall pick in the 2012 draft.
With new and fresh talent in the squad, the management is expecting an improved performance from the team in the next season.
