Washington Redskins performance report – NFL Special part 3
Washington Redskins made a great comeback right after their bye-week in Week 10. They won their next five games straight after the bye.
We have already reviewed the Redskins’ performance during the first nine weeks of the season. In this space, we will shed light on their performance after the bye.
Week 11: Philadelphia Eagles
Redskins started their comeback after outclassing the Philadelphia Eagles, their National Football Conference (NFC) East opponents, by 31-6.
Redskins defence came up with different formula of forcing turnovers from opposing offence and increased their efforts for getting more sacks. They did not let Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles or running back LeSean McCoy to score
any touchdown.
Redskins star quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) had an amazing performance that day, he was 14 of 15 for 200 yards and rushed 12 times for 84 yards. He threw four touchdown passes (one in each quarter) to Darrel Young, Aldrick
Robinson, Santana Moss and Logan Paulsen respectively.
Week 12: Dallas Cowboys
Redskins won their second consecutive game by 38-31 against another NFC East opponent, Dallas Cowboys.
Redskins were completely dominant in the first half as they were leading the game with 28-3.
Griffin faced pressure from Cowboys’ defence, as he was sacked four times, intercepted once and got hits while throwing passes.
Despite this harsh opposition, he completed 19 of 27 passes for 304 yards and scored four touchdowns.
In the second half Cowboys veteran quarterback Tony Romo came in light by throwing three touchdown passes. However, those points could not help them outscore the Redskins.
Week 13: New York Giants
It was Redskins’ third win at home. They defeated then-NFC East leaders New York Giants by 17-16, who had beaten Redskins in their first meeting in Week 7.
The game went neck and neck for most part. There was nothing separating both teams till the end, but the Redskins got hold of the game in the final quarter and recovered from a six-point deficit to get a one-point decisive lead.
Redskins’ offence kept the possession and let the time run out and won the tough game competitively.
Week 14: Baltimore Ravens
It was Redskins’ fourth consecutive win at home. Again, it was a competitive game against the leaders of American Football Conference (AFC) North Baltimore Ravens.
Griffin tore his LCL in his right knee during fourth quarter of the game. Rookie Kirk Cousins replaced him and turned on the magic in final moments of the game.
Cousins threw an 11-yard pass to Garcon, who scored a touchdown and tied the game at 28-28. A 34-yard field goal by Redskins’ kicker Kai Forbath in overtime led them to a 31-28 victory.
