Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has sprained LCL in right knee – NFL News
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has sprained LCL in his right knee that was hurt during Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
In a routine interview on Monday, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan informed that Griffin’s lateral collateral ligament in the right knee is sprained instead of ACL.
During the game, Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata hit Griffin in the fourth quarter of the game. Shanahan shared his views about the injury of Griffin and said:
"When I looked at it on film, I thought it would be worse than it was."
According to Shanahan, the injury is not that bad and Griffin will recover before the next game against Cleveland Browns on Sunday, December 16.
Talking about the status of Griffin for the next game, Shanahan said:
"You're hoping with rehab it gets better very quickly. But we don't know for sure. He's definitely not ruled out for the Cleveland game."
He completed 15 of 26 passes for 246 yards and scored a touchdown in the game. His passer rating in the game was 102.4, which is the best among all quarterbacks.
Griffin has played a great role in this season for the Redskins through his impressive performance as a rookie quarterback.
Redskins have improved a lot and have won last four games.
The Redskins have won seven and lost six games this season, and they are standing at 2nd position in National Football Conference (NFC) East.
They are behind New York Giants in the division, who have won eight and lost five games in the season.
Rookie Kirk Cousins replaced Griffin at the end of the game and completed 2 of 2 passes for 26 yards and scored a touchdown.
Shanahan said of Cousins:
"You're running the scout team the majority of the time, and you're expected to go in there and perform. So there's a lot of pressure on people. Some people can handle it; other people can't. But when you prepare yourself like he has, it didn't surprise
me that he was flawless in what he did."
