Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III signs contract – NFL News
The second overall pick of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft Robert Griffin III (RG3) has finally signed a contract with the Washington Redskins.
The four-year, $21.1 million contract was signed on Wednesday, July 18, 2012.
Earlier, it was reported that RG3 would sign a contract pretty soon. The rookies who do not get contract before training camp will not be able to join it as the league rules do not allow them to participate in such official team activities without signing
contracts.
RG3 tweeted after signing the contract:
"Well people....It's Time to go to Work!!! Off the unemployment line and oh yea HTTR!!!”
Redskins had a terrible season last year and they were desperate to revamp their offence before the start of the 2012 season. Rex Grossman did not quite impress the team with his performance and he is now expected to play as backup.
Redskins successfully traded up their pick with the St. Louis Rams and selected the Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor.
They have already announced that RG3 will be the starter in the next season and that is why it was necessary for both parties to agree to the deal before training camp.
RG3 was drafted in April and since it took such a long time to sign the contract, some critics said that the quarterback was planning on holding out.
However, RG3 recently clarified that he was not planning on holding out and hoped that the deal would be signed soon.
Now that the deal is signed, RG3 is gearing up for training with his teammates. This will be his last chance to learn the offence well. He must ask as many questions from his coaches as he wants and try to get hold of the playbook.
After training camp, preseason games will start and the team will definitely expect the young star to start shining in those games.
Redskins will play their first preseason game against Buffalo Bills on August 09. They will face three more opponents after that. They will take on Chicago Bears on August 18, Indianapolis Colts on August 25 and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 29.
They will play their first regular season game against New Orleans Saints on September 09.
