Washington Redskins’ quarterback Robert Griffin III wants to be energetic around veterans – NFL News
Washington Redskins’ second overall pick in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, quarterback, Robert Griffin III (RG3), has expressed hopes of carrying positive momentum from the team’s rookie minicamp into organised team activities (OTAs) in which
Redskins’ veterans will also take part.
Earlier, Redskins’ head coach, Mike Shanahan, confirmed that RG3 would start the first team’s offence during the OTAs.
RG3, who met with other rookies of the team for the first time during the minicamp, said that he is excited about working out with the veterans.
Although he has not met them yet, RG3 informed reporters after the minicamp that he had spoken with a few of his senior teammates.
When asked about how he was planning on training with the veterans, RG3 pointed out that it was rather easier for him to train with rookies. However, he said, he would try to have fun with the senior players.
RG3 commented:
“Of course it’s easier with a bunch of rookies. No one, you know, the veterans are trying to tape you to goalposts and pour water on you, so, no, it’s just about coming out and having fun, having a good attitude.”
He added:
“The vets know that they brought certain guys in to do certain things so they’re going to expect you to come out and do your job.”
During the rookie minicamp, RG3 also got a chance to train with Kirk Cousins, another quarterback who was selected during the draft.
It is widely believed that RG3 will be Redskins’ starter next season and Cousins and another quarterback, Rex Grossman, would serve as his backup, but RG3 was not complacent.
He was of the view that everyone attended the minicamp to prove their talent and that Kirk was also doing the same.
He also said that he already knew that Redskins would draft Cousins as soon after picking him at second position, Shanahan informed RG3 about his plans of hiring another quarterback.
RG3 said of Kirk:
“Kirk’s trying to make this team just like I’m trying to make the team. So they brought me in for a reason and I plan to go out and do what I’m supposed to do and that’s help this team win.”
