Washington Redskins’ right tackle Jammal Brown will not have hip surgery – NFL News
Right tackle Jammal Brown’s hip injury does not seem to be that severe as was originally thought.
It comes as good news for Washington Redskins who want the former Pro Bowler to be back on the field.
No certain date has been given about Brown’s return to the roster. Head coach Mike Shanahan broke the news on Wednesday, August 01, 2012. He said:
"The doctor recommended some anti-inflammatories. We're going to bring him back here and get him back in football shape. I don't think anybody knows (if Jammal can return) until you put him through the conditioning drills, treatment, give him a workout and
see how he reacts the next day.”
Brown has been working very hard to get back to game fitness. He has been doing pilates and yoga throughout this offseason.
Unfortunately, he was again sidelined with a re-injured hip while doing a sprint. He has also missed the first week of training camp.
Brown missed four games of the 2011 season with hip and groin injury. He missed the entire 2009 season because of a left hip injury which required surgery.
The MRI of Brown’s hip has revealed no structural damage, which in turn means that the two-time Pro Bowler will not need surgery this time.
Redskins are taking good precaution when it comes to Brown. His hip injury has recurred many times during his career. Shanahan said:
"Can he practice pain-free? We're not going to activate him, take him off PUP until he's ready to go. If he's able to go, and we feel like there's a good chance he'll stay injury-free, he'll be on our football team. If not, obviously he can't."
Jammal was drafted by New Orleans Saints in the first round (13th overall pick) of the 2005 draft.
He spent five seasons with them and was traded by Saints to Redskins in the 2010 offseason for a 3rd or 4th round pick in the next year’s draft.
Tyler Polumbus will be the starter during Brown’s absence. He played the four games last season that Brown missed.
Still, uncertainty exists about how much game has left in Brown after such a long list of injuries.
