Washington Redskins rookie QB Robert Griffin III (RG3) not focusing on personal glory – NFL News
In just 12 games of his National Football League (NFL) career, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) has already become a hit.
He has led the team to a number of impressive wins, already beating his team’s last season’s 5-11 record. The Redskins are at 6-6 and still have four more games to play in the regular season. At the moment they are eyeing a playoff berth because they are
just one win away from National Football Conference (NFC) East leaders New York Giants.
The Redskins were defeated by the Giants early in the season, but in Week 13 they took the revenge and settled the score, thanks to brilliant performance from RG3, who also set the rookie record for most rushing yards in a season.
RG3 finished with completing 13 of 21 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 72 yards on five attempts.
This took his total number of rushing yards in this season to 714, which is the highest in the league. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton earned this record last year when he managed 707 rushing yards.
In 12 games this season, RG3 has already registered 2,660 passing yards, while setting the rushing record. He also has 17 passing and six rushing touchdowns to his name.
However, the rookie quarterback is not focused on his personal record and victories of the team value more to him.
After the recent win during which he set the rushing record, the quarterback said, via Redskins’ website:
“I think stats don't really matter. We won the game and we made plays in crucial situations.  The offensive line stepped up big when we needed them to. We won the game.  We played more physical and that was the key.”
Meanwhile, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has also appreciated RG3’s performance in the game. The head coach said:
"When you're in the four-minute attack and you want to stay in-bounds like Robert [Griffin III] did, you have to make a big play. You still have to get first downs to close it.”
He added:
“To be able to close out a game like that when you know you have to run the football says a lot about our offensive line.”
