Washington Redskins rookie QB Robert Griffin III hopes to sign contract this week – NFL News
The second overall pick of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) has not yet signed a contract with Washington Redskins and if he does not do it by Monday, he will not be able to join the team’s conditioning programme.
However, the rookie is not worried about the contract situation and is hopeful that his agent and the team management will agree to the contract conditions pretty soon.
As per the NFL rules, rookies cannot participate in the team’s conditioning programme or their training camp if they have not signed their contract.
Since RG3 is going to be their starter, the Redskins want him to attend every training session and that is why it is in the interest of both parties to sign the deal as quickly as possible.
According to the Washington Post, the rookie is not bothered about the contract situation. Referring to his conversation with his agent, the RG3 said:
"I think my agent and the Redskins both know it's paramount for me to be in camp on time, and I think they're going to work towards that."
It is expected that RG3’s deal value will be over $22 million.
RG3 has already made it clear that he is not going to hold out or do anything silly to push the deal talks. He is expecting things to settle down smoothly and does not want to create any controversy in this matter.
Redskins will start their training camp on July 26, but rookies are required to report to the Redskins Park on July 16. RG3 maintained that he will be there to attend the team activities and said:
"I will be there this Thursday, and hopefully by the 16th, I'll be signed and ready to go. I have no objections -- I'm not trying to hold out or make it seem like it's not a big deal. It's just (that) I'm not concerned about it, because I'm sure they'll make it happen.”
The first overall pick of this year’s draft Andrew Luck has also not signed the deal with Indianapolis Colts yet.
