Washington Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III shows his class – NFL News
Washington Redskins’ fans were dejected after the result of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season in which their team could only win five games and was placed at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) East after losing 11 games.
However, they have now received fresh hopes of optimism after quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3), the second overall pick of this year’s draft, showcased his talent in the Redskins’ first preseason game on Thursday, August 09, 2012 against Buffalo Bills.
RG3 scored the only touchdown of the game as the Redskins edged past the Bills in a low-scoring game. After failing to extract any handsome advantage out of some plays in the first quarter, RG3 finally managed to combine with wide receiver Pierre Garcon
to get a 20-yard touchdown.
It was the quarterback’s first appearance for the Redskins and by leading the team to victory he has certainly sent the alarm bells ringing for other teams in the league. After the game, RG3 told Rick "Doc" Walkeron on the Redskins Radio Network:
“It felt extremely good to come out (and play). Coach did a good job calling plays, got me in rhythm and helped get the offence in rhythm on that third drive. And that's what it's all about. You don't always have to go out and try to put together the best
scheme to the one play to the one route that's going to be wide open. Sometimes you have got to go out and out-execute the team."
Meanwhile, Garcon, who caught RG3’s touchdown pass, has adopted an ambitious approach towards the Redskins’ next games. They will play three more preseason games before starting their regular season campaign against New Orleans Saints on September 09.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Garcon urged his teammates to carry the momentum into the next games. He said:
“It started off great. We just have to continue to grow and not think this is the high point."
However, Garcon also acknowledged that there are some areas where the Redskins must improve in order to become stronger. Redskins are going to play their next preseason game against Chicago Bears on August 18.
