Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) suffers mild concussion – NFL News
Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) suffered a mild concussion during Week 5 game against Atlanta Falcons and was unable to finish the game.
The quarterback was trying to avoid a sack when he received a hit from his opponent in the second half. At first, he stayed on the ground for some time and then later stood up. However, he was unable to walk properly.
He was taken to the sidelines and then to the locker room before being sent home. The team doctors, who evaluated the player, confirmed that he had suffered a concussion.
Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said of the rookie:
"He wasn't sure what quarter it was in the third quarter. So at that time, when he wasn't really sure what the score was, what the quarter was, we knew he had a mild concussion -- at least according to the doctors. It feels good right now; a lot better right
now. But that was ... why he didn't go back into the game."
RG3’s departure hurt the team a lot as Redskins lost the game.
It is not clear when the quarterback will take the field now. He will undergo further evaluation on Monday before the team could say anything about the player.
The rookie will have to follow the National Football League (NFL) protocols now before being able to take the field and it is too soon to tell if he will be able to play in Week 6 game against Minnesota Vikings.
RG3 was replaced by Kirk Cousins, but the latter was not able to lead the team and even though he created some scoring drives, he struggled with his pass accuracy and ended up sending two interceptions.
Meanwhile, Falcons coach Mike Smith also acknowledged that his team had to change its plan after departure of RG3. Smith said:
"It's a different dynamic when he's not in there.”
The Falcons coach added:
“He's a distributor who throws it and hands it off to someone else, so it did it change our game plan when he left the game."
It is expected that Redskins will not update RG3’s status before a couple of days.
