Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III realises his mistake – NFL News
Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) has realised his mistake that led to his head injury and a mild concussion in Week 5 game against Atlanta Falcons.
Rather than throwing the ball to any receiver, RG3 attempted to rush the ball and eventually paid the price.
It is not unusual for rookies to trust their own rushing skills. They are not given to passing the ball more often (which they should do), and seen rushing on the field with the ball.
Also, they tend not to slide and stop the play and keep on running the ball, which makes them vulnerable to hits from opponents.
The same aspect was highlighted by Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan during the offseason as well as after RG3 received the injury last weekend.
RG3 seems to have realised his mistake and is up for being more cautious in future. He was cleared for practice without contact on Wednesday and is also expected to play Week 6 game against Minnesota Vikings.
According to the details present on the team’s website, RG3 said of the play during which he was injured:
"I tried to get down, but if I had slit a half second earlier I would have been safe. I tried to get down too late and he had already launched. At that point, it was just a matter of absorbing the hit, and I absorbed it the wrong way."
Meanwhile, the injury, which often has some dreadful consequences, has not discouraged RG3. He is confident as ever to take the field and lead his team to victories.
In his absence, Redskins lost the game against Falcons. At present, they do not have a very good standing in National Football Conference (NFC) East and the rookie’s return might help their victory chances.
Asserting that he is not scared of the injury, RG3 said:
“I pretty much put myself through the concussion test and knew that I was OK.”
The quarterback added:
"Our game plan and the call sheet we’ve had has been different for every game. Whether they dial up QB runs or not, it doesn’t matter to me. It’s just a matter of winning."
