Washington Redskins set to host Philadelphia Eagles – NFL Preview
Hoping to end their respective losing streaks, two teams placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East – Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins – are going to face each other on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at FedEx Field in Week 11
game.
The Redskins (3-6) are currently on a three-game losing streak with the recent defeats coming against New York Giants (27-23), Pittsburgh Steelers (27-12) and Carolina Panthers (21-13).
On the other hand, the Eagles (3-6) are on a five-game losing streak, their longest under the tenure of head coach Andy Reid. Their recent defeats have come against Steelers, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys.
The Eagles not only have a longer losing streak than the Redskins, they also are struggling more than Redskins.
Eagles veteran quarterback Michael Vick is out of the side owing to a concussion. He was forced out of Week 10 game against Cowboys and was replaced by rookie Nick Foles, who is going to make his first National Football League (NFL) start against the Redskins.
As he took the first-team reps this week, Foles got to spend more time with the starters. He is feeling comfortable and wants to give his best shot. The rookie said:
"We have a great group of guys here; great coaches. I feel great, I felt great ever since I got here. I feel like it's a home. We have fun together. We had fun out there in practice, working together in the locker room. It's a great environment to play in,
it's a great environment to go to work in. I feel comfortable with everything and I'm ready to go play for these guys."
Meanwhile, Redskins’ woes are not hidden from anyone either. Their decision to select a quarterback in this year’s draft paid off nicely, but betterment only at one position cannot change fortunes for them.
Quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3), the second overall pick of this year’s draft, has lived up to the expectations by leading the offence to a number of scoring opportunities in almost every game, but he alone cannot take the team to the playoffs.
Even the rookie himself has asserted that a collective effort comprising better performance from the defence and his receivers is required to ensure more victories. RG3 said:
“It’s not just me out there. If they’re not out there doing their jobs, it makes my job that much more difficult. So we’re all in it together."
Meanwhile, both defences are not in their top form. The Eagles have relatively better players in their defensive line-up, but they are not playing well this season. Moreover, RG3 is equally skilful with passing and rushing and this can give tough time to
Eagles.
