Washington Redskins startle New York Giants 23-10 – NFL Week 15 Recap
Redskins did it at the start of the season and they did it once again! This time, however, the damage was more severe as a loss (23-10) to New York Giants has once again put them behind Dallas Cowboys in the National Football Conference
East division, jeopardising their chances of reaching the postseason.
The MetLife Stadium on Sunday witnessed a feeble home side succumbing for the second time in the season against the side that has no chance of reaching the playoffs.
According to Giants’ defensive captain Justin Tuck, his team ‘laid an egg’. Coach Tom Coughlin was disappointed and expected to see more. Commenting on the loss, Coughlin said, “I am very disappointed in how we played today and
the responsibility always comes right back to me and I accept it. I told the players that I just expected to see more. I expected to see quality, quality execution and really, quite frankly, we didn’t get much of that.”
The Giants (7-7) have once again fallen behind the Cowboys (8-6) that won their game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-15 on Saturday. The Giants can still reach the playoffs if they win their last two games, but if they continue
to perform like they played against the Redskins, a victory is unlikely.
The Redskins were all over their opponents and did not let the host settle. They got a lead in the first quarter when Graham Gano scored a 36-yard field goal.
The second quarter was more action-filled where a lot of scoring moves were made. At 13:42, the Redskins stretched their lead to 10-0, thanks to a 20-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Rex Grossman to Santana Moss. Following it,
was a six-yard run for a touchdown by Darrel Young, who had collected Gano’s kick. At the end of the half, the Giants opened their account through a 40-yard field goal by Lawrence Tynes. The halftime scored settled at 17-3.
The Redskins once again accelerated to increase the lead in the third quarter. Graham Gano’s 43-yard field goal took the score to 20-3.
Early in the fourth quarter, Gano sent another field goal to depress the Giants. During the last minute of the game, when the result could easily be predicted, Ahmad Bradshaw managed a three-yard run to give the Giants a reason
to cheer about. But the touchdown was too little too late.
Coach Tom Coughlin has much to think about as his side prepare to face New York Jets in a must-win game. He was dejected with the loss and expressed his disappointment after the game.
The Redskins got their fifth victory of the season, but they are still placed at the bottom of the NFC East division. The victory, however, will help their cause of finishing the season on a positive note.
Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan was pleased to get a victory over the Giants. An elated Shanahan told the press, “You have to be patient, you have to believe in what you do. And I believe in what we’re doing. I’ve done it for a long
time. We’ve got the nucleus of an excellent football team. We’re not there yet. But I like the direction we’re going.”
The Redskins will face Minnesota Vikings next week.
