Washington Redskins to determine Robert Griffin III’s status for Week 6 game later this week – NFL News
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has not confirmed status of rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) for Week 6 game against Minnesota Vikings, saying his status will be confirmed later this week.
RG3 was sidelined after suffering from a mild concussion in Redskins’ Week 5 game against Atlanta Falcons.
According to the details present on the team’s website, the rookie quarterback underwent initial examination and looked fine. However, further tests will ascertain his chances for the game.
If RG3 gets clearance from the team then his performance will be monitored on practice field before making the final call about his participation against Vikings.
Shanahan said of the player on Monday:
“Today, he has basically rest and testing. Tomorrow, if he passes the test, he’ll get a chance to get some cardio work – get a little workout in on the treadmill.”
The head coach added:
"If there are no symptoms – like headaches, dizziness, nausea, things along those lines – then he would be able to practice on Wednesday as long as there is no contact. Then, monitor that throughout the week, make sure no headaches come back or dizziness
or things along those lines."
When the quarterback was injured, he was immediately taken off the field. He wanted to continue but since he was unable to even stand properly, the management sent him home.
Before that, he was examined in the locker room, where team doctors asked him a few questions related to the game and the player was unable to give correct answers. At that occasion, it was confirmed that the player had suffered concussion.
Shanahan said of that moment:
“That is when the doctor’s knew there was some type of problem."
In RG3’s absence, Redskins also lost the game and they are now placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East, winning two and losing three games this season.
It is essential for the team that RG3 returns to the field, but the player will not be allowed to take the field unless he is completely fit, because injuries like concussion can have many negative consequences that hurt players even after their retirement.
