Washington State University sweeps Oregon by 3-0: Volleyball news
The Oregon State University’s women’s volleyball team had a match with Washington State University on Friday, September 30 at the Bohler Gym. Washington State was able to defeat Oregon by making a clean sweep and dominating their opponents.
The first set of the match was all about Washington State all through as Oregon kept trailing behind until Washington had won the frame. However, Oregon was able to step up their play in the second set and give their rivals a significant challenge. Unfortunately
for the Oregon squad, the effort came in too late and Washington also won the second set. A two set advantage got the Washington State rolling in the third set and they were able to win the match at the following final set scores: 25-16, 25-23 and 25-18.
The head coach of the Oregon team, Taras Liskevych, made the following comments about the match: “First of all, they served us off the court in sets one and two. At the end of the second set, that may be the worst we’ve passed in a match. We just had people
that really did not step up to this occasion, and we had so many balls hit at us that we didn’t dig. And despite all that it was 23 all in the second set. If we had won that set, it’s a totally different match. Right now, need to just find a way to sustain
siding out and controlling the ball on our side of the net.”
The first set of the match saw Washington State take the lead early on and stretch their advantage. Oregon could not do much except trail behind as Washington raced up to bag the opening set at 25-16. After a competitive second set and a disappointing loss
for Oregon at 23-25, Washington also won the third set at 25-18.
The overall season record of the Oregon State University shows a total of 11 wins in comparison with four losses. In the Pac-12, Oregon has been able to win three matches but has lost two. On the other hand, the overall season record of Washington State
shows 10 victories secured at the expense of five defeats while in the Pac-12, Washington State has earned two wins with three losses.
The player that was able to tally the highest number of points for the Oregon side was Camille Saxton as she scored 15 points. These were obtained by registering 11 kills along with four blocks. However, the Washington State player, Meagan Ganzer, was able
to post the highest number of kills amongst both teams by tallying 18.
