Washington Wizards’ Kevin Seraphin to play for the Spanish team Caja Laboral Vitoria: NBA News
With the labour dispute going no way towards the resolution at the moment, another NBA player has decided to play overseas this fall until the league gets back to business.
Washington Wizards’ young power forward Kevin Seraphin, who also plays as a centre, released a statement on Monday indicating that he is going to play for a Spanish Euro-league team Caja Laboral Vitoria. Seraphin’s agent Bouna
Ndiaye confirmed the news and it is now official that the fans will see Kevin Seraphin in the Spanish team pretty soon.
According to the sources, the French basketball player will replace the injured Maciej Lampe who is expected to stay out of the court for at least five months after hip surgery. The Spanish team Caja Laboral Vitoria is going to
compete in Europe’s best league Spain’s ACB and Kevin is expected to be a part of the team in the tournament
After being locked out by NBA in his first year, the young power forward Kevin had plans to sign overseas for quite some time. Initially, it was anticipated that Kevin will play for his home team in France. The sources suggested
that the big man was also considering an offer from Cholet Basket in Paris. However, Seraphin decision to play for a Spanish team instead, was a surprising report which struck the news bulletin on Monday.
Before revealing the decision, Kevin Seraphin was waiting for the European Olympic Qualifying tournament to end in which his home team France finished second behind Spain.
Before coming into NBA, Kevin started to play basketball in 2004. He joined the Youth Academy of Cholet Basket in 2006 to develop his basketball skills. After two years, Seraphin joined the senior team of Cholet Basket in the French
Pro League and made his debut during the 2008-2009 season.
In 69 games which he played for the French team during the season; Kevin Seraphin averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 boards in over 12 minutes of playing time
The Eastern Conference elite Chicago Bulls selected Kevin Seraphin with the 17th overall pick during the 2010 NBA Draft. However Bulls traded the big man Kevin to Washington Wizards along with Kirk Hinrich and received
the draft rights for Vladimir Veremeenko.
The 21-year old centre Seraphin played 57 games for the Wizards in the last season and averaged 2.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. With the height of 6 foot 9 inches, Kevin can do wonders for any team and playing overseas will
be a good experience for the big man to learn the game and develop his skills further.
