Washington Wizards clinch 116-115 victory against Philadelphia 76ers’
On Tuesday, 2nd November, 2010 the crowd at Verizon Centre experienced their home town team Washington Wizards play a memorable game. For 2 hours and 41 minutes the crowd kept cheering and booing for both the teams.
The auditorium was roaring with 17,803 basketball fans, who had left their busy schedules just to catch the game.
Let’s have a peek into last night’s game and see through the statistics of both the teams, who played it better and how the Wizards made it to the end.
The Wizards stood their ground with 11 rebounds whereas the Sixers could only get along with 8.
The game started with both the teams struggling hard for a full two minutes. The raging scoreless fight kept going on for a while, during which, Andre Iguodala, kept his stance as impressive as he could.
The Phils scored 115 points with L. Williams scoring the highest points, 30. E. Brand was the 2nd top scorer for the Sixers as he scored 21 points. The Wizards on the other hand led the game by scoring 116 points.
J. Wall scored 29 points and was in the lead of the team whereas A. Blatche scored 23 points and was at the 2nd lead.
The game belonged to the Wizards from the start as they scored 12-3 in the very beginning giving the Sixers tough competition.
The inactive players were Brackins and Meeks from the Philadelphia 76ers. Arenas, Howard and N’Diaye were inactive from the Washington Wizards end.
No one was expecting Hilton Armstrong to make the team lead the way he did with his ready to attack turnaround jumper that took the Wizards lead to 82-73.
The game was tied a dozen times, 12 to be exact. There were 8 lead changes that kept the audience at the edge of their seats.
With two minutes left to go, Wall made it in and his dribbling techniques allowed him to give away a quick jumper to Al Thronton, who succeeded in making the lead go 110-107.
The match was an on-going battle till the very last minute when John Wall buried a mid-range jumper making it up to three. Blatche was very impressive with his dribbling and holding up the team when the game was breathing its last moments.
No one would have assumed that a shot from Elton Brand at the last moments would help the Wizards soar to the sky with a lead of 115-114.
Each second was a crucial one for both the teams as they struggled and fought to get the ball in their side of the court. Brand made fouls that would otherwise have saved the day for the Sixers.
But that gave a chance to Blatche to cover up for his not so up to the mark performance and he hit both free throws for his team taking them into the lead once again with 7.1 seconds on the clock.
The Sixers played around with the ball but they couldn’t make it to the hoop and so the Wizards clinched the game 116-115.
Overall the game was a tumultuous one, with both the teams having a chance to go away with the ball once and again. Both the teams played well, however the Wizards showed a deep determination that kept them going even though the Sixers did steal the ball
at times.
The Sixers were successful in giving the Wizards some tough passes but then that’s what basketball is all about isn’t it?
