Washington Wizards overcome LeBron’s triple-double to stun the Heat: NBA Recap
Washington Wizards don’t normally beat many teams in the league, but they sure know how to get past LeBron James and company. The Wizards has dropped the Miami Heat twice in the later stages of the last regular season and on Tuesday
night, they did it again, beating the defending champions 105-101 at the Verizon Center.
Washington owed their victory to their bench, which produced 64 of the 105 points. Jordan Crawford led the Wizards with 22 points and 6 assists, Kevin Seraphin posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while A.J. Price
chipped in with 14 points for the Wizards, who won only their second game of the season.
LeBron James was hot as ever, he posted a triple-double with 26 points 13 rebounds and 11 assists, Chris Bosh had 20 points and 12 rebounds while Dwayne Wade finished off with 24 points for the night. Miami were not convincing
from the three point range. Their sharp shooter Ray Allen struggled on the night, in which they combined for 8 out of 28 from behind the arc.
A Wade dunk shot early in the first period put the Heat up 6-2 and a layup by James moments later had them on 10-6. However the Wizards were not intimidated by the champions. They kept the Heat in check, not allowing them to get
away as the score was tied quite a number of times in the ensuing passage. Crawford made a layup to put Wizards up 23-18 and he closed the period with a three pointer to have them leading 30-25.
Miami tied the score on 30 right at the start of the second period, but the Wizards were looking strong and a 9-0 quick burst put them up by 41-32. They kept a reasonable distance for most of the period and pushed their lead to
54-44 after Webster nailed one in from downtown.
Washington were maintaining their 10 point advantage with 2:39 left in the period when the Heat sprang into action and a quick 8-0 burst reduced the deficit to 54-56. Wizards then scored the last 4 points of the quarter to go into
the second half leading 60-54.
Washington started the second half on a strong note and pushed their advantage to 69-59 early. They maintained their lead over the Heat for some time before the champions came back late and reduced the deficit down to 78-82 by
the end of the period.
James made a layup to make it a 2 point game early in the period and Bosh scored a deuce to tie the score on 88 with 6:48 on the regulation. The trend of scores getting tied and lead switching hands continued for a while and a
Wade layup brought Heat within 99-101 with 1:26 left to go. James scored a double to make it a one point game on 101-102 before the Wizards scored the final three points of the game on free throws to edge out Miami Heat 105-101.
