Washington Wizards point guard John Wall looking to enrol in school again: NBA Update
The first overall pick in the 2010 National Basketball Association draft, John Wall, is planning on re-joining the University of Kentucky (UK) as a student in order to complete his degree. Wall is the latest addition to the list of players who have been keen on completing their degree while the NBA owners and the players association fight over the new format of the Collective Bargaining agreement or CBA.
Wall's adviser and representative Brian Clifton verified the news, but said Wall will join the university only "if it's absolutely certain that he can finish the semester."
"He did very well his freshman year," Clifton said. "He's got a high GPA, has done some good work and doesn't want to compromise that by being in and out and only half-heartedly commit to being a student."
Wall’s decision does not come as a surprise. After the first meeting in the post lockout era ended up in the league filing two law suits against the union, it has become evident that the lockout is here to stay and as far as Wall is concerned, he will get ample time to finished his studies, which were disrupted when he left to play in NBA.
Boston Celtics Rajon Rondo, Los Angeles Clippers Eric Bledsoe and Cleveland Cavaliers point guard have already declared their intention to finish their degrees during the lockout. The earlier two players are also going to enrol in UK.
However, nothing is yet confirmed as Wall’s representative said that John has few “other obligations”. In addition to that there is always a slight possibility that in future labour issue can be resolved.
It is because of this dilemma, the players who are willing to go abroad are seeking an opt-out clause in their contracts, so they can return to the NBA as soon as the lockout ends.
Wall had a terrific last season with the Wizards. In his rookie year, he scored 16.4 points, 8.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game and also won the MVP award in the Rookie contest during the All-Star weekend. The young point guard, who playing in summer leagues nowadays, is looking to settle in Lexington whether the university enrols him or not.
Clifton said, "I would absolutely love to see John back in Lexington. It makes more sense in terms of him being able to do the most with his time."
