Washington Wizards select delighted Bradley Beal with third overall pick in the draft – NBA Update
The Washington Wizards got what they wanted coming into the 2012 NBA Draft; Bradley Beal. The Wizards had done their scouting and identified Beal as the man who fulfilled their needs in the 2012 draft class.
The Florida man brings shooting, scoring and a high basketball IQ at the shooting guard position, just what the Wizards were looking for.
On the other hand, Beal had always dreamed of getting into the NBA and shaking Commissioner David Stern’s hand, a dream that finally came true. The youngster was understandably excited.
“I didn’t know it was going to come this fast. Here I am today,” Beal said at Prudential. “The greatest feeling ever. This is by far, the best feeling I’ve ever had. To actually achieve my dream and my goal is a blessing and an honour. I’m grateful right
now, but I can’t stop here. I’ve got to get to work.”
Beal had worked out at the Verizon centre for the Wizards and the two parties had been aching for a get together since. The guard admitted after being selected by Washington that although he would have been happy wherever he went, the Wizards were indeed
the first choice.
“To be honest, in the back of my head. I had the feeling after working out with them, that’s where I wanted to be,” Beal said. “At the end of the day, no matter where I would’ve landed, I would’ve been happy. But I’m grateful I’m in D.C.”
A big reason for that is the presence of livewire point guard John Wall in Washington. Wall was the number one pick in the 2010 NBA draft and has become a cornerstone of the Wizards franchise already. John can now look forward to a running mate that can
cause almost as much damage to the opposition as himself, and take the attention of opposition defences away from him in the process.
The 6-foot-3 Bradley Beal averaged 14.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists last season. He shot over 45 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from beyond the arc. Beal wore no. 23 during his college career but as Michael Jordan used to wear that number
for the Wizards, he will not be continuing with it anymore.
