Washington Wizards star Rashard Lewis gets his name into the record books – NBA Update
Thirty two year old veteran power forward Rashard Lewis may have lost his purple touch, but is still a player who is tumbling records and on Sunday night, he reached a massive milestone.
Rashard has become the 3rd player in the history of NBA, other than Paul Pierce and Jason Kidd, to score more than 15000 points, grab 5000 boards and hit 1500 three pointers.
He reached the milestone in the Wizards win over the Detroit Pistons, which was first of their 5 games road trip. His inclusion in that game was doubtful because of a bruised knee, however he did play and after scoring 10 points
in the game, he reached the milestone.
“It feels good,” Lewis said. “I’m most definitely happy and excited about it. I’ve been playing in the NBA for a long time and this just tells me I’ve had a pretty successful career. Not a lot of people can be on that list.”
The two times All-Star has been in the NBA for over fourteen years and in that period, he has dished out some outstanding performances.  In his prime, he was a consistent double-double threat and led Seattle Supersonics- team which
he played the most for - to some memorable wins.
Looking back at his career and remembering how excited he was after he finally made it on to big stage in 1998, after not being considered in the NBA draft the earlier year, Rashard expressed his delight.
“I never took anything for granted,” Lewis said. “And getting drafted in the second round, being able to play for 13 years … this my 14th year. It’s just definitely an honour and a blessing to still be in the NBA, after going in
the second round,”
Rashard moved to Washington Wizards last season after representing Orlando Magic for four years. Although, he only managed to play 32 games for the Wizards that season, he still managed to put up a few phenomenal performances.
The veteran forward is yet to fire this season, which has not been going well for the Wizards. Rashard, like his other team mates, is disappointed with the team’s performance. However he added that the recent win over the Pistons,
which was a special game for him, would do the team a word of good.
Wizards are low on their confidence and the win might act as a confidence booster which can help them in getting back in rhythm for the future games.
