Washington Wizards vs. Dallas Mavericks, first half analysis
First quarter
The Dallas Mavericks are hosting the Washington Wizards at home. The game started with a jump shot coming from the Mavericks, and was shot by Dirk Nowitzki. DeShawn Stevenson assisted his teammate on the shot and Nick Young missed a 3-pointer coming his
way after the start up.
John Wall’s driving layup was the first shot clinched by the Wizards that became a scoring tie between the opponents at 2-2. Trevor Booker was fouled at the 9:41 mark and Nowitzki scooped out both free throws provided to take a lead over the opposition,
4-2.
Wall’s driving layup gave the Wizards a one-point lead over the Mavericks. At that point Wilson Chandler shot a series of five shots to outscore the Washington Wizards with five points, 19-14.
In between that, Wall clinched two shots for Washington. Dallas lost control of their defence, once Washington’s Rashard Lewis and Kirk Hinrich clinched a three-pointer each, going 23-21 over the Mavericks and outscoring them by doing so.
Washington led Dallas by the end of first quarter, 25-21.
Second quarter
After being put through a challenging first quarter, the Mavericks got up with a new resolve. Nowitzki made a fade away jumper at the very beginning of the second quarter to close the gap, 23-25.
Unfortunately it was followed by Brendan Haywood’s shooting foul that gave away two free throws savoured by Wall, to go 27-23 over the Mavericks.
Dallas stumbled, and missed a couple of shots that came their way after that. Washington took complete advantage of the scene and developed a 12 point lead over the opposition at the 9:23 mark, outscoring them, 35-23.
The Mavericks could not digest the idea of it and Nowitzki reconciled to pull out four shots in a row, including a 3-pointer, two free throws and a jumper. The Wizards responded with a jump shot that kept Dallas far, 39-32.
The Mavericks did not let the Wizards get away with the ball and leashed their defence whenever they got a chance.
Two 3-pointers clinched by Brian Cardinal and Jason Kidd each gave the Mavericks a one-point lead over Washington, 48-47. Andray Blatche tied the scores between the rivals at 48-all and another free throw gave them a one-point lead over the opposition.
Al Thornton was fouled, giving away a pair of free throws to the Mavericks, who tossed a one-point lead over them, 50-49.
