Washington snap 26-game road-losing streak, 115-100 vs. Cavaliers
There was a huge victory awaiting the Washington Wizards as they landed on Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland on Sunday. The Wizards skidded past the Cavaliers breaking their 26-game losing streak and sealed a 115-100 victory over one of the worst teams of the
season, Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers once again stumbled after breaking their own 26-game losing streak.
The Wizards held the Cavaliers at a margin of 25 points as they never let go of the lead throughout the clash. They had 52 points from the painted area and let the losing team go with just 38.
Nick Young had 31 for 32 on a 14-for-21 shooting from the field. The Wizards had been a 25-0 on the road ever since 9 April, 2010 at Boston and finally they broke their long road losing spell. Antawn Jamison scored team-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds
for the Cavaliers whereas J.J. Hickson clinched a double-double by posting 16 points along with 13 rebounds for the losing team.
The game was remarkable throughout. John Wall and Young kept their offence up against opposition’s starting backcourt. They held them to a tenacious 33-2 start in the first half of the clash. On the contrary, Mo Williams and Anthony Parker, their counterparts
could only dish out only 1-for-13 shooting from the field along with six turnovers as Wizards kept their eyes on the numbers that changed on the score board.
The Wizards felt so excited about the road game and Christmas and Wall had to look twice at the scoreboard to make sure the game belonged to them. Young was blooming with joy as the player later said, "We did what we were supposed to do tonight."
Washington could not let go of this hard won game. They had to make sure of everything from the start. So with 6:37 on the clock in the first quarter, JaVale McGee trounced an alley-oop handed over by Wall that took them over the Cavaliers, 19-8.
While the Wizards enjoyed breaking their long road slide, one of their ex-teammate was with their opposition. Andray Blatche, Washington’s power forward was later quoted as saying, "This is one of the best feelings we've had in a while. I know it hurt (ex-Wizards
forward Antawn Jamison) to lose to us, but I'm more happy for my current teammates right now."
Young played the offence very well. He secured 13 out of his 17 shots in the clash. One of the Cavaliers was out against him throughout the night but he still finalized with a 14-for-21 shooting. The player went mostly for long jumpers in the win and later
said, "After a loss like that last night, we all felt bad. Coach got on us and said some inspiring things. We all got punked. Tonight we played from the beginning to the end."
The Cavaliers’ condition only got worse after cracking a lonesome 126-119 win over the Los Angeles Clippers two nights ago. They have faltered really badly this season, going 2-37 since 30 November, 2010. The victory before this one came against the Memphis
Grizzlies on 27 November, 2010.
For the Wizards, Wednesday at Orlando, Feb. 22 vs. Indiana, Feb. 23 at Philadelphia.
For the Cavaliers, Wednesday vs. the Lakers, Feb. 23 vs. Houston, Feb. 25 vs. New York.
