Legendary Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram recommends that the ICC World Cup 2011 hosts India must strengthen their spin attack for their quarter-finals clash again Australia on Thursday, 24 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391.
The former cricketer believes that Team India should go with three dedicated spinners and two fast bowlers against the defending champions, who have recently struggled against quality spinners.
But the man who led his country in 1999 World Cup affirms that they should apply this strategy if the pitch for quarter-finals assists spin, but if it turns out to be a flat track then this plan may backfire.
Former Pakistan captain said, “If the wicket in Ahmedabad offers turn, then http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 since
the slower bowlers will not get much assistance from the surface.”
Similar strategies have been adopted by other teams against the Aussies in recent One Day Internationals. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, in their group match, also stacked themselves with three spinners for their match against the Kangaroos, but they never had a chance to check
that combination out, as the match was abandoned due to rain.
Four time world champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
Their batting has been their weaker link, as Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has been struggling with the bat and this has affected his captaincy. Apart from Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, the others have not yet shined with the bat.
The Indians have certain demons of their own, as so far in the tournament they have gone with spinners in four games and the combination advised by Akram is still to be tested. Their bowlers have gone for runs in group matches and apart from the top four
batsmen, the others have failed miserably.
India lost nine wickets for 29 runs in a match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 dismissed the last seven batsmen for 51 runs.
Akram concludes, “I don't think there is any major reason to worry as these things happen by chance. At the same time, you have to plan your innings and cannot afford to slog every delivery. I am quite sure the experienced Indian middle-order will learn
a lot out of their mistakes.”
India will go head-to-head with the Aussies at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad in the second quarter-final. The winner of this match will face the winner of first quarter-finals between Pakistan and West Indies.
In the other quarter-final matches, South Africa will go against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Saturday, 26 March.
