Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 captain Wasim Akram has backed India’s young-middle order batsman Rohit Sharma to play Test cricket as well and feels that the right hander has the ability to serve Indian cricket for many years to come.
Young Rohit was named as the Player of the Series in the recently concluded One Day International (ODI) series against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. The middle order batsman piled up 257 runs in five matches at an astonishing average of 128.50 runs per innings.
In his article for Cricinfo, the legendary fast bowler said that Sharma has proved himself as a high class batsman now and it is about time that he cements his place in the Indian team in all the three formats of the game.
Akram stated, “I had always believed in Rohit Sharma. By becoming the Man of the Series, Rohit has only improved his chances to become a regular member of the national team. Now, he should focus on playing Test cricket and if Rohit has to compete with the
likes of Kohli and Raina, consistent performance is the only way forward.

Since then, Sharma has been a part of Indian team in different tournaments but he failed to find a permanent spot in the national team and is yet to make his Test debut.
Rohit has so far played 66 ODIs for India in which he has scored 1505 runs at a below par average of 31.35 runs per innings. Cricket fans expect a higher average from a batsman of his ability.
However, Akram is not happy with the performance of some of the other youngsters and expected better from them.
“I believe players like Badrinath, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tiwari-c94129 made the ODI squad on the strength of their domestic performance and of course, the IPL. But I doubt they have been able to grab the opportunities they got in the Caribbean,”
Wasim added.
