http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 for asking for another term
Former Pakistan all-rounder, Wasim Akram has said that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt should not even consider asking to serve Pakistan cricket for another term. The PCB chairman’s two-year
term comes to an end at the end of this month and can be extended by another couple of years. Akram described Butt’s term as the PCB chairman as a complete failure.
Writing in his column for a sports website, ESPNStar.com, Akram wrote:
"If [Ijaz] Butt has asked for another term then hats off to him (pun intended). The whole of Pakistan and world cricket is after him. Pakistan cricket is in a mess, there is no leadership and amidst all
this, to ask for another term, well what can I say. This shows that his advisors are not giving him the right directions,"
Akram also wrote that Butt had failed to lead from the front and under him the Pakistani cricket was in dire straits.
“There is no leadership and it was the chairman's role to keep all these things under check. He has failed."
Butt’s reign as the chairman of the PCB has been full of controversies, including the most current one in which three of the Pakistani cricketers were suspended by the International Cricket Council over allegations
of spot-fixing. Earlier, in 2009, there was a terrorist attack on the touring Sri Lankan side which resulted in none of the cricket teams wanting to tour Pakistan. Things have come to such a head that in a recent ICC board meeting, the apex cricket body decided
to give Butt a period of one month to clean the act at the domestic level or face sanctions.
Akram also added that the selection of the Pakistani team should be done in conjunction with the coach and the captain, something that had not happened for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
“I strongly believe that the presence of the captain and coach is a must in the process of team selection. It's fine that it is a selectors' job, but again it is a team game. If you keep fighting amongst
yourselves then where is the leadership? The ball once again falls in Butt's court. He should take care of all these things," he said.
Butt had succeeded Nashim http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 as the chairman of the PCB in October 2008.
