Legendary left arm fast bowler Wasim Akram urged the players, fans and most importantly the media to unite and move on from the controversy that has hit Pakistan cricket.
He said that it was absolutely important for the fans and the media to support their team through turbulent times as only this can give Pakistan some hope to win the 2011 World Cup.
 "Let's forget what problems we've been going through recently and with a positive frame of mind support the Pakistan team to win next year's World Cup," Wasim exclaimed during a ceremony for the unveiling of the trophy.
The fast bowler was the man of the tournament in the only World Cup Pakistan won in 1992 with his exceptional performance with both the bat and the ball. Pakistan cricket team has been deeply debilitated mainly due to poor governance by the PCB, suspension
of senior players, the spot-fixing fiasco and a lack of unity amongst the ranks of the players.
Some of the key players in the Pakistan side who strengthened the side, Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal it has been learnt were not cleared by the ICC due to suspicion looming over their names.
Wasim Akram said while he acknowledged the fact that the controversies have deeply hurt the preparations for the World Cup, he believed the team had the ability to make a dramatic comeback against all odds.
