Wasim Akram wants Shahid Afridi as long-term captain of Pakistan team
Former Pakistan captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 by appointing him the national team captain on a long-term basis.
“I think Afridi should be made captain for a long term so that he gains more confidence because he is developing into a good captain,” Akram said.
The legendary fast bowler, who earlier slammed Afridi for adopting defensive strategy during the ICC World Cup 2011 semi-final against archrivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, expressed the hope that he would learn from his mistakes and emerge as a better leader in future.
Akram, who is shouldering his responsibilities as Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders’ bowling consultant in the Indian Premier League, further endorsed Afridi’s demand of a specialist batting coach for the national side.
Afridi earlier floated that idea of a batting coach for the side after a below par performance of Pakistan batsmen in the ICC World Cup 2011. Cricket experts have been appreciating the all-rounder’s opinion, and now the former fast bowler has also joined
the chorus.
Akram meanwhile expressed his disagreement with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580, who rejected the concept of a batting coach for the national side. Akram said that even at international level, the coach can make a huge difference as he can guide players to adjust their game
according to the various conditions.
“I agree the team needs a batting coach. Every team now has a full-time specialist batting coach with them and I have always believed that even at this level, the best players sometimes need to be given guidance and tips on batting issues,” the former pacer
added.
Akram also appreciated the Pakistan cricket selectors for picking youngsters for the tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. He also lauded resting Umar Gul, as the paceman has been playing non-stop cricket for quite some time. He further urged selectors to adopt a rotational
policy in the bowling department because the fast bowlers carry the risk of getting injured due to tight schedule of international cricket.
The former reverse-swing expert also suggested his former fellows Waqar Younis and Aqib Javed, both of whom are working with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team as coaches, to teach young bowlers to bowl with discipline and to cut down on extras.
