Question:

Wasn't BJ Penn's boxing awesome? Would he win a rematch with GSP?

It is obvious Penn has completed his game. That display of boxing skills was the best I've ever seen in MMA. Do you think he could now take GSP in a rematch? How lucky is Hughes that Penn didn't come out boxing like that in the rematch?

  1. GSP does not lose rematches. End of story. Penn could be the first to do it, but until then ill side with GSP.

Evidence Matt Hughes and Matt Serra (both title holders)

  2. Whoa there.  BJ is a great fighter and deserved his victory.  BUT, his boxing skills are not that great and certainly not the best we've seen in the UFC.

What BJ had was a great jab, which combined with Sherk's understandable caution about shooting in recklessly, dictated the fight.  Jabs will bust you up over time.

For better boxing skills you don't have to look far.  h**l, Vitor Belfort back in the day had way better boxing skills.  Cro-Cop's protoge that same night as BJ fought had a better stance and better power (though he needs to learn combinations.  If he does that that man is going to be a force.)

Duane Ludwig is another guy I'd point to if you want to see top notch striking skills in the Octagon.  (or in the err... circle I guess since he's currently with Strikeforce.)

GSP is far and away the better striker than BJ Penn.  If they fight again BJ is going to be severely challenged.  GSP is just too versitile.  He's a good boxer, great kicker and fantastic wrestler.  There's just no holes to exploit.  BJ is better at pure jujitsu though.  Plus, GSP is the bigger guy.  BJ is better in the lightweight division.

So in short, calm yourself down.  Penn is good, but I wouldn't fit him for a pair of Golden Gloves just yet.

  3. I dont think he could take GSP..GSP has improved a great deal since that fight and he still beat BJ...BJ has improved as well but not enough

  4. Penn's boxing was awesome, but he seems to neglect the kicking range.  GSP's Karate is top notch. So is his wrestling. I think GSP would win the rematch by decision.

  5. Penn is d**n good, but I'd like to see him get beat down.  I think GSP could get it done too.

  6. Penn wouldnt have the reach advantage with GSP like he did

with Sherk. I would go GSP in the rematch but it would still be

    an awesome fight.

  7. I wanna see BJ Penn and GSP again, and i think we will. Peen had the balls to call out GSP, Gsp is gonna smash BJ Penn if and when they fight again

  8. Penn looked good, I'll give him that.  A rematch with GSP?  Penn goes down.  Don't get me wrong, Penn has great skills, just nothing to take GSP out with... he'll lose some speed bulking up to be able to compete with GSP's strength and he'll lose range, which he undoubtably had against Sherk.

To be honest, I was much more impressed with Lyoto Machida's striking.  That man has skills.  Tito landed maybe two punches on him... thats no small feat considering the opponents Tito has past defeated.  Machida made him look bad.

  9. he won the first fight in my opinion...Bj never looses he just runs out of time

  10. A rematch with GSP would be awesome.  Penn would have murdered GSP If he had good cardio in their first match.  Penn wooped his *** in that first round, but then he got gassed out and couldn't stop the take down.  I f BJ Penn could get his cardio up to where GSP is.  I think Penn will win.  Penn should stay at 155 though.
