Wasn't Chester Williams Springbok coach before Jake White?

The new coach, Peter de Villiers, was said on TV to be the first non-white coach.

  1. Chester coached the S.A. 7's team, which while a representative side, is not a full national team.

    So while SA has had a non-white coach in the organization, they have never had one who coached (was put in charge of) the Springboks.

  4. In 2001 Chester Williams was selected as the coach of the South African sevens team that won bronze at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and ended runners up in the World Sevens Series. He remained sevens coach until 2003.

    In 2006, he was brought back into the South African coaching ranks as the head coach of the national "A" side (a developmental side for the Boks).

    From 2004-2005 he coached the Cats.
