Wasn't Jesus a Communist?

This might offend some people, but wasn't Jesus honestly a Communist? Yet, most American Christians hate Communism so much. And wasn't Jesus a prison who was executed? Yet, most American Christians are for the death penalty.

Don't you think that if Jesus had his second coming, we've killed him already?

  1. Most likely.

  2. My friends and I bring up this topic from time to time.  In the end, though, we would say "no", because while God doesn't see any difference in people (merchant, president, worker, ditch digger) he doesn't say word one about common ownership.

In other words, while He may say a classless society is a good thing at no time does he mention common ownership is the way to get there.    But honestly, He doesn't even categorize classes as bad.  He merely says He makes no distinction among them.

Don't equate His directive to voluntarily help the poor (the fatherless and the widow) with the involuntary command from Communism that you personally own nothing.

Incidentally, the Bible does seem to point out that we will be rewarded for how well we used our gifting during our lives.  While not a different "class" in heaven, there appears we might might see a differentiation among those present.

  3. Probably he was. But one must consider that what we know as communism today is not really communism but actually fascism.

True communism is a good thing where people live in a system where everything is done for the good of all. Where all people are the same and work toward the same goals.

  4. Interesting points.  I think it is a paradox when evangelical Christians are pro-death penalty, since it is pretty clear in the New Testament that Jesus is against it.

For example, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus praises mercy (Matthew 5:7) and rejects “an eye for an eye” (Matthew 5:38-39).  In John 8:7, Jesus says, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

  5. A communist is somebody whose ideology is motivated by politics; Jesus was somebody whose ideology was motivated by his religious beliefs. That is a big difference. Even broadly interpreted, there is no evidence of Jesus founding something like a commune, although the early church could perhaps be described as a series of (religiously motivated) communes.

  6. Jesus was certainly not a communist.

Firstly, all communist regimes, Karl Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin etc. were atheistic.

Secondly, Jesus urged the rich to voluntarily give to the poor out of charity (love). He would not have supported the forced confiscation of riches by a self-appointed, elitist dictatorship to distribute according to their own whims. He would also have been disgusted at the way communists have always used their power to line their own pockets.

Thirdly, He would have been disgusted at the hideous brutality and lack of freedom which has been the hallmark of every communist regime that has ever existed.

CONFIRMATION. When Mary appeared to some children at Fatima in Portugal in 1917 (prior to the communist revolution in Russia), she warned that Russia would spread its errors around the world, i.e. she was warning about the the rise of communism in what was to become the Soviet Union and how it would engulf many other countries. This was a unprecedented and clear message from Heaven about the evils of this particular, political system.

  7. i don't see what's offensive about communism

    totalitarianism.. sure.. but not communism

'the one for all, together we stand' mentality was rather communist

  8. Maybe.

  9. The mixing of government and religion + media and false prophets probably led to American Christians to stray from what Jesus and Christianity is really about.

  10. Jesus was nothing but a fictional person in a fictional story.
